The Hotel de Russie and its Secret Garden was originally designed in the early 19th century by architect Giuseppe Valadier, who also redeveloped the Piazza del Popolo. However, when the hotel was officially opened in April 2000 by Rocco Forte, it had received a contemporary makeover courtesy of Italian architect and interior designer Tommaso Ziffer. Together, they created a grand, multifaceted destination which, while undeniably stylish and aspirational, has retained much of its original charm.
